Woman, 32, ‘scared’ for her eyesight while she awaits surgery to remove tumour

A woman fears she could lose her eyesight while she awaits surgery to remove a rare tumour.

Roxana Rosu is hoping to raise enough money to have a private op to remove the tumour which is causing her bones to expand, damaging her sight.

The 32-year-old is on the NHS waiting list but worries if the procedure isn’t done quickly she will go blind.

With her sight continuing to deteriorate rapidly, Roxana, from Bristol, has set up a GoFundMe page.

She had noticed her bones seemingly getting bigger for a while, but assumed it was something to do with getting older.

Though when she started experiencing headaches and sweating she sought medical advice.

Several GPs in England told her the symptoms were nothing to worry about, she claims.

When she returned to her home country of Romania, however, a doctor diagnosed her with a tumour between her optic nerve and brain, Roxana said.

She says her symptoms have now grown more severe, including only being able to sleep between three to four hours a night, and sweating.

urgery, and during that time she could lose her eyesight.

“I’m scared for my life,” she said. “I’m really struggling – I don’t want to turn blind. I’m feeling very stressed out.”

On March 19, Roxana said an optician explained her eyesight had deteriorated compared to her last visit at the start of the month.

She said: “They thought that the steroids will help my visual field but unfortunately they didn’t help. I’m getting more and more concerned.

“In such a short time I had such a change in my eyesight. My only hope now is to manage to have the surgery as soon as possible.”

Roxana also wants to raise awareness, so other people with the rare illness will know the early warning signs.

“It takes years to get as bad as it is but I didn’t realise I had it,” she said. “My friends would say your nose has grown. I didn’t notice how much.”

In the past five years, Roxana says her hands, legs and nose have all enlarged due to her condition called acromegaly of the pituitary gland.
